When your child already plays regular 18-hole golf, choosing a summer golf camp raises different questions. Will the courses provide enough challenge? Will the coaching address their individual game? And will they enjoy spending the week with other golfers who share their enthusiasm?
For experienced and low-handicap junior golfers, the right camp should combine appropriate golfing challenges, useful coaching and a rewarding experience beyond the course. Here is what to consider when planning a summer in Scotland.
Start with playing experience, not just age
A handicap provides a useful starting point, but it does not tell the whole story. Two golfers with similar handicaps might have different confidence levels, experience of unfamiliar courses and reasons for attending camp.
Consider how comfortably your golfer plays full rounds, how independently they make decisions and what they would most like to gain from the week. Some want to experience outstanding courses; others are particularly interested in individual feedback or learning to manage different playing conditions.
At RV Golf Schools, Signature is designed for established 18-hole golfers aged 14–18 with a handicap of 15 or better, including single-figure handicap players. Hidden Gems offers another option for established golfers aged 12–18 with an official handicap.
You can compare Signature, Hidden Gems and our other golf experiences to see which best suits your golfer.
Look beyond the course names
Playing a memorable Scottish course is exciting, but the value also comes from the decisions it asks a golfer to make.
How does the wind affect club selection? When is positioning more useful than distance? What changes when an approach shot lands on firmer ground?
For an experienced junior, unfamiliar courses create opportunities to think more carefully about shot selection and course management. A useful question is therefore: “What can my golfer learn from this programme?” alongside “Which courses will they play?”
Our 2027 camp schedules show the planned golf for each week and experience. Course allocations and daily arrangements remain subject to final confirmation.
Decide how much individual feedback would help
Every RVGS experience includes two hours of professional group coaching each day. Golfers who want a closer look at particular areas of their game can also choose our optional High Performance Coaching upgrade, available alongside Ultimate, Hidden Gems and Signature.
Video and TrackMan analysis help explain the swing and ball flight, while Capto supports putting analysis. Specialist coaching turns that information into practical guidance.
For an experienced golfer, useful questions might include:
What contributes to my usual missed shot?
How consistent is my putting stroke?
How could I make better decisions around the green?
What should I prioritise in practice after camp?
A personal CoachNow folder provides a record of coaching and development points to revisit afterwards and share with their coach at home.
High Performance Coaching is an optional enhancement to a chosen experience; golfers can attend Signature without adding it.
Keep the wider camp experience in mind
Even a committed, low-handicap golfer should look forward to more than practice and scores.
Making friends, sharing experiences and enjoying time away from home are valuable parts of a residential camp. Independence and confidence can develop through the whole week, including time spent together away from the course.
The aim is to choose a programme your golfer will find both challenging and enjoyable.
Find the right combination for summer 2027
Start by comparing the golf experiences, then review the weekly schedules and decide whether additional individual coaching would be useful.
If your golfer could suit more than one option, contact Rick with their age, handicap, playing experience and what they hope to gain from camp. We will help you choose an appropriate combination.
