For a young golfer, a summer in Scotland can mean new courses, useful coaching and friendships with other juniors who share their enthusiasm for the game. For parents organising the trip from overseas, there are practical questions too: which camp is suitable, where should your child arrive, and how will the arrangements fit together?
This guide explains where to start when planning an international visit to RV Golf Schools in 2027.
Start with your golfer’s experience and interests
The right camp should reflect how your child plays now and what they would enjoy gaining from the week.
A younger golfer building confidence needs a different experience from a teenager who regularly plays competitions. Equally, an experienced player may want challenging courses, individual coaching feedback or simply the opportunity to enjoy golf with new friends.
Our four experiences offer different starting points:
Development, ages 7–11: building skills, confidence and enjoyment, with no handicap required.
Ultimate, ages 10–18: coaching and varied Scottish courses, with no official handicap required.
Hidden Gems, ages 12–18: for established 18-hole golfers with an official handicap.
Signature, ages 14–18: for experienced 18-hole golfers with a handicap of 15 or better, including single-figure players.
Compare the options on our Golf Experiences page. If your golfer could suit more than one, tell us about their playing experience and interests—we can help you choose.
Choose your dates before arranging travel
Our 2027 programme runs across four weeks:
Scottish Open Week: 4–10 July · St Andrews
The Open Week: 10–17 July · Dollar Academy
St Andrews Experience: 18–24 July · St Andrews
St Andrews Experience: 25–31 July · St Andrews
Development runs during Weeks 1, 3 and 4. Ultimate, Hidden Gems and Signature are offered across all four weeks.
Golfers are welcome to attend more than one week. If your child stays for multiple weeks, we take care of the accommodation and travel arrangements between camps, including when moving between St Andrews and The Open Week at Dollar Academy. This makes it straightforward to build a longer stay around the experiences they would enjoy.
Our 2027 camp schedules show the planned programmes. Courses and daily arrangements remain subject to final confirmation.
Decide whether your child will stay residential
For families travelling internationally, residential camp brings accommodation and camp life together with the golf programme.
Residential places include accommodation, meals, staff support and organised evening activities. Sharing time away from the course also gives golfers opportunities to get to know one another and become more independent.
If you are visiting Scotland as a family, non-residential places are available during the St Andrews weeks, subject to availability. Lunch is included; parents arrange accommodation and daily transport. The Open Week is residential only.
You can compare both options on the Golf Experiences page.
Speak to us before booking flights
For all 2027 weeks, the recommended arrival points are Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station. Complimentary arrival and return transfers cover these two locations only.
Please contact us before purchasing flights or train tickets so we can coordinate the arrangements. This is particularly useful when your child is travelling independently or when your proposed travel does not fit neatly around the camp dates.
If you intend to use an airline’s unaccompanied-minor service, discuss this with us before booking. We can then help coordinate collection arrangements alongside the airline’s requirements.
Read our travel and transfer FAQs or contact Rick to discuss your journey.
Think about what your golfer wants to take home
A successful camp is about more than the courses on the schedule. Consider what would make the visit worthwhile for your child: greater confidence, new friendships, better decisions on the course or a clearer understanding of their game.
Every experience includes professional group coaching. Golfers choosing Ultimate, Hidden Gems or Signature can also add High Performance Coaching for individual analysis and more personalised feedback.
That upgrade can provide practical development points to revisit after camp and discuss with their coach at home. It is optional; it does not replace the coaching already included.
Prepare together before departure
Give your golfer a part in planning the trip. Look through their chosen programme together, discuss what they are looking forward to and encourage them to share any questions.
For the practical preparation, check golf-equipment baggage arrangements with your airline and allow space for waterproofs, warm layers and comfortable clothing. Equipment hire is available if travelling with clubs is inconvenient.
Flights and travel insurance are separate from the camp price. Review the camp FAQs and the booking terms before confirming your arrangements.
Let us help you put the plan together
You do not need to have every detail settled before getting in touch.
Send us your golfer’s age, playing experience, preferred dates and the country you will be travelling from. We can help you identify a suitable experience and discuss the practical questions before you book.
